{"id":3940,"date":"2012-12-09T21:20:27","date_gmt":"2012-12-09T20:20:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.worldbiking.info\/wordpress\/?p=3940"},"modified":"2019-12-30T10:06:35","modified_gmt":"2019-12-30T15:06:35","slug":"good-times-on-the-great-ocean-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.worldbiking.info\/wordpress\/2012\/12\/good-times-on-the-great-ocean-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Times on the Great Ocean Road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>America\u2019s got the Pacific Coast Highway, Australia\u2019s got the Great Ocean Road.\u00a0 Both are stunningly beautiful with jaw-dropping views.\u00a0 Both are prone to the kind of weather that sends sane cyclists to an indoor spinning class.\u00a0 And both are worth the effort even in torrential rains and gale force winds.<\/p>\n<p>The Great Ocean Road is by far the flatter and shorter (just under 300 KMS) of the two.\u00a0 Like Highway One in the US, the GOR hugs the coast, twisting and turning along the Southern Ocean.\u00a0 At times the highway turns inland, climbing up into the heavily-forested hinterland.\u00a0 There are fishing villages, and quaint little towns full of tourists sipping coffee at street side cafes.\u00a0 It\u2019s a fun ride but best avoided on weekends and school holidays when the area is flooded with day-trippers from Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll let the photos tell the rest of the story\u2026<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" src=\"http:\/\/worldbiking.info\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/8257822743_eda6443d6e_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"384\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The ride couldn&#8217;t be more beautiful! Relatively empty roads mid-week and off season.
